It is very important to keep children safe around water.
Drowning is the third most common cause of accidental death among under 16’s in the UK and second in Europe, most of the victims of drowning are described as “good or strong swimmers” therefore, it is not just sufficient to just know how to swim, but to also know how to keep safe.
The Personal Survival Awards can be used to complement any swimming lesson programme to teach the swimmer about dangers which could be faced in unknown, deep and open water environments, and how to keep themselves safe should they get into difficulty.
These awards have 4 Grades that progress through introducing more complex skills. Older swimmers will enjoy the learning experience and challenge of tests set in these awards. On completion of each Grade, a Kellogg’s Scottish Swimming Award is available to reward the swimmer’s achievement.
