2 1/2 - 3 1/2 years
Learning through play, where the teacher is communicating through the parent or carer, teaching the child to accomplish simple confidence building skills.

Award Conditions
Aims:
- To provide a structured programme through play, where the teacher communicates through the adult, teaching the child to accomplish the following:
- Basic watermanship skills.
- The gross motor skills involved in basic kick and arm movements.
Conditions:
The following conditions must be fulfilled:
- Demonstrate a safe entry via (1) use of steps and (2) assisted jumping in.
- Demonstrate ‘monkeying’, hand over hand along rail without aids.
- Trawling prone with extended arm tow, immersing face to exhale and lifting to inhale, maintaining horizontal position.
- Push and Glide to wall from adult, with aids if necessary.
- Kicking holding floats in prone position, supported by adult.
- Front or back paddle with aids for 5m.
- Demonstrate a safe exit (with or without manual assistance).
Additional Notes:
- Children should be 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 years.
- Children should be under the supervision of an adult in the water.
