This award develops independence from the adult through play and further develops basic watermanship skills.

Award Conditions
Aims:
- To provide a structured framework where communication is between the teacher and child with the adult reinforcing and encouraging by words and imitation.
- To develop independence from adult in preparation for entry to learn to swim.
- To provide a programme through structured play, where the child further develops basic watermanship skills necessary for the subsequent successful acquisition of swimming skills.
Conditions:
The following conditions must be fulfilled:
- Demonstrate a safe sit and swivel entry
- Demonstrate independent jumping in (with or without aids).
- Demonstrate basic breathing skills: (1) exhaling into water through nose and mouth and (2) trickle and explosive.
- Walking in different directions, (where depth does not allow this, propelling in different directions).
- Regaining feet, (where depth does not allow this, regain vertical position).
- Demonstrate any floating shape for 5 sec, with no aids.
- Show alternating kick with aid, for 10m.
- Show alternating arm action/paddle for 10m, with aids.
- Show fly kick, simultaneously with aids over 5m.
- Push and Glide, no aids, towards wall.
- Demonstrate a safe exit via independent use of steps.
- Additional Notes:
- Children should be 3 1/2 years onwards.
- Children should be under the supervision of an adult in the water.
