SwimGymTM is a fitness product developed by Scottish Swimming in partnership with the Scottish Executive’s Healthy Living initiative and SportScotland to help people across Scotland to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle. The SwimGym™ Endurance Awards provide the fitness swimmer with a goal to work towards and to give some added motivation towards working through the progressive levels of the SwimGym™ series. Swimmers either working with or without the SwimGym™ schedules can keep track of their mileage using the Endurance Awards Log Book and can submit this to gain a certificate of achievement after completing any of the following distances: 21km, 42km and 100km.

Research shows that every 17 hours someone in the UK drowns, with an average 400 to 500 people drowning per year, with drowning being the most common cause of accidental death among under 16’s. Most of the victims of drowning are described as good or strong swimmers therefore it is not just sufficient to know how to swim, but swimmers also need to know how to keep safe.
As a result Scottish Swimming have re-introduced their personal survival awards scheme, which can be used to complement any swimming lesson programme to teach the swimmer about the dangers that can be faced within deep and open water environments and how to keep themselves safe should they get into difficulty. With 4 Grades that are progressively more difficult these awards will also appeal to the older swimmer who can get involved and try out the challenging test items. On completion of each grade, a certificate is available to reward the swimmers achievement!

A comprehensive range of 12 distance awards, which start at 5 meters up to 2000 meters. These awards are ideal for schools, clubs and learn to swim schemes, encouraging fitness through swimming and personal achievement.

This award can be used to recognize achievements not covered within any of the other awards. This would be awarded at the discretion of the teacher and should be given to a swimmer in a positive manner.

This award is intended for the swimmer with physical sensory or learning disability, and is provided as an incentive to be used towards gaining confidence in the water and to introduce the fundamental skills involved in learning to swim. Reference has been made to where the skills feature within the Scottish Swimming Learn to Swim Programme and at which level. This award has been developed in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport.

The Scottish Schools Swimming Association hosts an annual Relay Event and now swimmers have a way to remember their teammates by having their own certificate to commemorate the achievement. The certificates have space for noting the event, position achieved, date and the 4-team members involved.
