Scottish Amateur Swimming Association AGM

132 delegates including 18 Life members and representatives from all districts came together on Saturday 26th February, at the University of Stirling for the SASA AGM.

The meeting was chaired by Doris Mair in one of her last duties as President of the Association.

Doris led delegates through the agenda, which included presentations from Maureen Campbell, Board Chair, as well as staff who provided updates on all areas of the business: Healthy Living, Development, Performance, Corporate Development, Marketing and Finance.

A presentation on Membership Fees was also debated at length with the following outcome voted for:

Swimmer:           £33

Non Swimmer:   £10

The Association made a commitment to freeze these fees at this level for the next four years but understood that the above fees will be presented each year for approval at the AGM in accordance to Scottish Swimming Governance.

It is also recognised that many clubs membership year is not aligned with the Association’s membership year and with this in mind it was agreed that should some clubs need additional time to pay the fees this year then they should contact Elaine Mackenzie, Director of Operations by email: e.mackenzie@scottishswimming.com to discuss.

Those clubs that apply for special dispensation would be able to pay the balance of their SASA fees at an agreed date; however, new members joining your club after annual renewal would pay the new membership fee in full.

Following the main business of the day, Doris made a special presentation to Ed Adam OBE (pictured left), whom, after 17 years, decided to stand down as Chair of the Editorial Board.

Doris then handed over her chain of office and welcomed incoming President Neil Valentine from the Midland District.

In his first duty as President, Neil formally introduced his Vice Presidents, John Deans (West District) and Gina Logan (East District) and awarded Life Membership of the Association to Doris Mair and Duncan McKinnell (pictured below).

A full minute of the meeting will be available shortly to view on the Scottish Swimming web.
