PURPOSE

To improve performance of athletes in a safe and positive environment, while working alongside other club staff to deliver a well organised, appropriate and effective programme.

 

MAIN FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • To provide quality coaching programmes to the ability of all athletes
  • To assist the athletes to achieve their full potential with the objective of achieving district / national / international / world class standards
    • To lead and coordinate the coaching team, and provide advice and support to assistant coaches and helpers
    • To provide clear, progressive and accessible development paths for athletes and coaches of all abilities, and give feedback on progression
  • To support club development initiatives
  • Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policies; child protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members
  • Liaise with the club management committee to ensure there are regular and appropriate competitive opportunities for members
  • To attend and contribute to appropriate club meetings
  • Prepare & Submit an Annual Coaches Report at the AGM
  • Produce a Yearly Training Development Plan
  • Work with volunteer coaches to develop and manage a coaching rota and ensure appropriate coaching cover for all squads.
    • Connect with district and district clubs
    • Lead/coach/progress swimmers towards Junior Academy/Angus Area Squad
    • Attend training days/weekends for Junior/Senior Academy
    • Lead meetings with parents
    • Work with local leisure trust to ensure a seamless transition from Learn to Swim programmes to club swimming.
    • Regularly host come & try sessions for new members to join the club

  • Sound IT skills (if required training will be provided by the club in relation to the specific software packages used)

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • PVG Scheme Membership
  • Complete a self-declaration
  • Be a member of Scottish Swimming
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development and a willingness to attend training opportunities when available
  • Willing and able to work effectively with the coaching and club management team and to develop positive relationships with key partners of the Club
  • Sign and adhere to the Coach’s Code of Conduct
  • Health and Safety Experience
  • Experience of organising and running Training camps
  • Experience of working with a range of abilities (Beginner - National Level) and supporting athletes on their individual journey within the sport
  • Experience of conducting athlete reviews with swimmers & parents
  • Experience of Team Travel, including organisation with travel companies
  • Experience of delivering land training sessions

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Learn to swim experience/qualification
  • Experience with Open Water Swimming Coaching

 

TRAINING AND SUPPORT

  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 2 (or equivalent) 
  • Willing to progress within the role utilising accessible developmental pathways
  • Willingness to Attend CPD Opportunities 
  • Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop (renewable every 3 years)

 

TIME COMMITMENT

There will be a requirement to work flexible hours which will include early morning, evening and weekend training sessions as well as competitions and relevant meetings at local, district, or national level as deemed appropriate
