Falkirk Otter is a competitive swimming club run by a fantastic group of coaches and a committee formed from parent volunteers. It is based in Falkirk, Scotland and provides coaching for young swimmers from the age of 6 upwards from Falkirk and the surrounding area. 

The role of the Head Coach is to improve the performance of swimmers in a safe and positive environment, while working alongside other club staff to deliver a well organised, appropriate and effective programme.

MAIN FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • To provide quality coaching programmes to the ability of all athletes
  • To assist the athletes to achieve their full potential with the objective of achieving district / national / international / world class standards in working with the FIRST programme
  • To lead and coordinate the Falkirk Otter coaching team, and provide advice and support to assistant coaches and helpers
  • Plan and ensure poolside rescue staff or lifeguard is present at coaching sessions
  • To provide clear, progressive and accessible development paths for athletes and coaches of all abilities, and ensure that feedback is given on progression to both swimmers and their parents
  • To support club development initiatives
  • Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policies; child protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members
  • Liaise with the club management committee to ensure there are regular and appropriate competitive opportunities for members
  • Create and maintain clear and effective lines of communication between club and the FIRST programme
  • To attend and contribute to appropriate club meetings
  • Source, establish and develop sustainable links with local schools and lesson providers
  • To coordinate coaches to ensure adequate attendance at all sessions and swim meets
  • To ensure all coaches qualifications and certifications are relevant and up to date
  • Frequent attendance at all levels of swim meets during weekends is required and expected

  • Experience of coaching at club level is preferable but not a requirement

 REQUIREMENTS

  • PVG Scheme Membership
  • Complete a self-declaration
  • Be a member of Scottish Swimming
  • Attend appropriate training
  • Sign and adhere to the Coach’s Code of Conduct

 TRAINING AND SUPPORT

  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 2 (minimum)
  • Appropriate CPD
  • Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop (renewable every 3 years)
