Gala ASC, established in 1915, are a competitive swimming club dedicated to helping swimmers be the best they can be.

The club has a fully inclusive programme allowing individuals to reach their full potential, whether that is competitive, fitness or socially. We aim to nurture the enjoyment and enthusiasm of all our members. There is a team of coaches supported by a number of poolside helpers to enable effective coaching to take place in sessions. The club currently has approximately 60 swimmers aged 7-17 years across 7 squads ranging from newly club ready to junior performance level.

The Head Coach will work with the poolside team in managing, developing and the delivery of the club’s coaching programme. Gala ASC work in partnership with the Borders Elite Swim Team Performance programme therefore you will also have the opportunity to work with performance athletes and liaise with the Borders Performance Coach. As part of BEST and Gala you will also have the opportunity to attend Scottish Swimming National programmes.

Ideally you will be a UKCC Level 2 swimming coach. However, you may be someone with Level 1 or have substantial swimming experience, maybe a student who was a competitive swimmer who is keen to stay involved in swimming. Gala ASC will help support in achieving level 1 & 2 qualifications.

Main responsibilities:

• Plan, implement, co-ordinate and develop the club’s coaching programme across all squads to ensure all swimmers are given the opportunity to maximise their potential.
• Prepare session plans and training schedules for all squads
• Provide hands on coaching at our two main club sessions (currently Monday & Friday evenings)
• Lead and develop our existing team of coaches and poolside volunteers
• Work closely with the Borders Performance Coach to help support existing squad members and prepare suitable new swimmers to enter the programme
• Communicate effectively with swimmers, coaches, volunteers and parents
• Attend agreed meets to support club swimmers
