Hailes Swimming Club is a junior developmental swim club which works to improve swim techniques across the four swim strokes. Our members range from 5 to 16 years of age and are coached according to ability. We are affiliated with Scottish Amateur Swimming Association (SASA) and are working in conjunction with them to achieve SwiMark status. We participate in competitive galas and are members of the Forth Valley Junior League (FVJL).


Our main training session is on a Saturday night at Forrester High School, however we also offer additional mid week training sessions.  Times and venues are as follows:

Saturday     Forrester High School      5-6pm Development Squad; 6-7pm Progression and Advanced Squad

Tuesday      Balerno High School        7-7.45pm

Wednesday Balerno High School        6.30-7.15pm

Thursday    Currie High School          6-6.45pm

At each training session at least 2 qualified coaches and 1 lifeguard will be present.


As members of the Forth Valley Junior League we compete in 6 competitive galas per year. Participation in the galas is not compulsory but the club actively encourage members to take part.  Team selection for the gala is decided by the coaches and we try to give every member the opportunity to swim for the club.

Scottish Swimming/ Edinburgh Leisure Club Forum

We are one of 4 Swimming Clubs in Edinburgh who have been selected to be part of Scottish Swimming’s Club Forum hosted by Edinburgh Leisure. This is based on a model similar to Scottish Athletics focusing on Amateur Sports club with the focus of long term athlete development. Meetings are 6 times a year based at Sport Scotland Offices. Other clubs involved are Leith, Dunedin and Grove Amateur Swimming Clubs.


To improve performance of athletes in a safe and positive environment, while working alongside other club staff to deliver a well organised, appropriate and effective programme.


  • To provide quality coaching programmes to meet the ability of all athletes
  • To assist the athletes to achieve their full potential with the objective of achieving district / national / international / world class standards
  • To support in the leadership and coordination of the coaching/ teaching team, and provide advice and support to assistant coaches, teachers and helpers
  • To provide clear, progressive and accessible development paths for athletes and coaches of all abilities, and give feedback on progression
    • To support club development initiatives
    • Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policies; child protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members
    • Liaise with the club management committee to ensure there are regular and appropriate competitive opportunities for members
    • To attend and contribute to appropriate club meetings

  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 1 TEACHING AQUATICS  Desirable

  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 1 COACHING SWIMMING Essential
  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 2 COACHING SWIMMING Essential (or a commitment to achieving this within 6 months of appointment)
  • Experience of coaching/ teaching at other Swimming Clubs
  • Appropriate up to date CPD
  • Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop
  • Up to date PVG
  • Up to date UKCC Licence


  • Membership of the PVG scheme
  • Sign and adhere to the Coach’s Code of Conduct
  • Attend appropriate training


The successful candidate would be expected to commit to a minimum of 4 hours direct coaching per week, plus preparation of session plans and participation at Galas.


£15 per hour on a self- employed basis
