Inverness Amateur Swimming Club is a competitive swimming club, based in Inverness in the Highlands. We have around 100 swimmers, over 4 squads, ranging in age from 8 -18, from beginners level to District and National Level. The majority of our training sessions are held at Inverness Leisure, with one at Culloden. We have a clear pathway to the Highland Swim Team who have a performance development Coach, who supports and links in with our coaching team.
We are looking for a committed, dynamic forward thinking Head Coach to lead the Club’s programme, to ensure that all swimmers reach their full potential. This is a paid position of 15 hours per week, on a self-employed basis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver a coordinated training programme for all swimmers to assist them in achieving their full potential
  • Attend to administrative tasks required for the efficient running of the squads
  • Work positively with other members of the coaching team, provide mentoring and guidance
  • Develop a positive working relationship with the swimmers and their parents, feeding back on progress and ensuring effective communication
  • Attend and contribute to coaching meetings on a regular basis


  • Level 3 UKCC/STA/ASA standard or equivalent. Level 2 will be considered depending on experience
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of long term athlete development
  • Be able to develop and deliver a coordinated training programme for all swimmers
  • Ambitious, enthusiastic, highly self-motivated with experience of coaching at Age group level or above
  • Willing and able to work with swimmers of all ages, parents, coaches and committee
  • Abide by and promote the Club’s policies and those of Scottish Swimming
  • Have the passion and knowledge to improve the quality of swimming within the Club
  • Work positively with the existing voluntary coaching team, providing them with mentoring and clear guidance

This post requires a time commitment of approximately 15 hours per week plus attendance at appropriate galas, team events and management meetings throughout the year. It is desirable for the Head Coach to attend 4 training sessions per week, as per the current squad sessions times.

References and PVG check will be undertaken prior to the offer of a position.

This is a self-employed post as such Candidates are required to send an invoice to the Club Treasurer when claiming expenses/Head Coach Remuneration.

A three month probationary period will be required for this role.
