K.A.S.C. was founded in 1902 and reconstituted in 1923. Races initially took place in the River Irvine. The club later moved to the Kilmarnock Academy Pool and from there onto the Kilmarnock Baths. K.A.S.C. eventually moved to the current pool at the Galleon Centre when it was opened in 1987. In a long and proud history, K.A.S.C. is now one of only a few independently run clubs remaining in the country, with no financial help from the local council. 


To improve performance of athletes in a safe and positive environment, while working alongside other club staff to deliver a well organised, appropriate and effective programme.


  • To provide quality coaching programmes to the ability of all athletes 
  • To assist the athletes to achieve their full potential with the objective of achieving district / national standards 
  • To lead and coordinate the coaching team, and provide advice and support to assistant coaches, club coaches, junior coaches, volunteers and helpers 
  • To provide clear, progressive and accessible development paths for athletes and coaches of all abilities, and give feedback on progression
  • To support club development initiatives
  • Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policies; child protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members
  • Liaise with the club management committee to ensure there are regular and appropriate competitive opportunities for members
  • To attend and contribute to appropriate club meetings

  • Complete an enhanced Disclosure Scotland check

  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 2 Coaching (minimum) 
  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 3 Coaching (preferred) 
  • Appropriate CPD 
  • Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop


To lead the top and bottom squads within the club as well as mentor other coaches on poolside. Time will also include additional admin required. Around 20 hours per week.
