Job Type: Part-Time

Hours: Approx 7.5 plus galas & cover as required

Salary: competitive and dependant on experience

Haddington & District ASC are a competitive swimming club dedicated to helping swimmers be the best they can be.   We are affiliated with Scottish Swimming, East District & a member of the composite team East Lothian Swim Team.

We work hard to create a safe, positive environment that nurtures the enjoyment and enthusiasm of every athlete within our club.

We are looking for a Lead Coach to coach children aged between 9 to 12 years in our competitive squad Jack Macks.  This role also oversees our non-competitive squad Marlins.

Ideally, you will be a UKCC Level 2 swimming coach.  You may be someone with a Level 1 or have substantial swimming experience, and the club would be willing to support your development and training.  We are also happy to provide training for Hy-Tek Team Manager and ensure you have a PVG scheme membership.

You may be a Coach at another Club looking for a move or additional hours.  You may also be a University Student who was a competitive swimmer and would like to stay involved in the sport.

In return, you will have the support of a good committee, the potential to work with other coaches, linked into the Coach Education programme with ELST and work with other athletes at different levels.

COACHING AND COMPETITION

We are looking for you to:

  • Develop the technical skills of our swimmers in all 4 strokes
  • Develop competition starts and turns, ensuring compliance with all current FINA regulations
  • Develop all swimmers' aerobic fitness and stamina following best practices outlined in the Optimal Athlete Development Framework recommendations.
  • Develop squad progress plans based on Head coaches outline plan, competition and testing data
  • Provide appropriate individual swimmer evaluation, including working with swimmers on personal goal-setting
  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, coaches, volunteers and parents, and give constructive and positive feedback
  • Work positively with other members of the coaching team, the Head Coach, other Club Coaches and the ELST performance pathway coaches to build a positive and cohesive environment

Of course, there are some essential criteria:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of the principles of Optimal Athlete Development Framework, as applied to Age Group Swimmers.
  • Help the swimmers develop a positive and healthy mental attitude to the sport and competitive situations and encourage good habits in nutrition, sleep, and well-being.
  • A courteous manner, with impeccable punctuality.
  • Provide cover when other coaches are away.

REMUNERATION

This role is a self-employed position, and Haddington & District ASC will offer a competitive level of remuneration, considering experience and qualifications.

The role will be approximately 7.5 hours/week, excluding prep, galas and competitions.

The training sessions are based at swimming pools across East Lothian, with the current training sessions for the squad as follows:

Tuesdays: 18:30 – 19:15 (land training) 19:30 – 21:00 (in the pool)

Thursdays 18:00 – 19:30
