Applications are invited for this post within the Open Water Committee. This is your chance to influence the course of open water swimming within Scotland at the highest level. You will work with the Open Water Committee to lead the strategic direction of the Open Water discipline.

Principal Duties are as follows:

  • With the Chair and the Head Open Water Coach, develop and publish selection policies for the Open Water Development Squad and Scottish Open Water Team for specific events/camps to be approved by the Open Water Committee.
  • Maintain communication with Development Squad and Scottish Team members, providing them with relevant information as required.

  • Maintain communication with the Head Open Water Coach.
  • Organise and coordinate Team and Squad camps to compete at overseas open water events. There are normally two to four such camps per year of a few days each, depending on priorities and the available budget.  Participation on at least one of these would be expected.  On such camps that the successful candidate was not participating, it would be expected that he/she would appoint the team manager and other staff and closely co-operate with the team manager to ensure the success of the camp.  This would include travel, accommodation and budgeting.

You will work within the Open Water Committee and can expect support from other committee members in the furtherance of these duties.  In particular, close co-operation with the Head Open Water Coach will be essential.

The Open Water Team/Squad Manager is a voluntary position.  Appropriate expenses will be paid in accordance with Scottish Swimming rules.

You must be a member of Scottish Swimming.  You must hold a valid driving license for the UK and Europe.  You should preferably hold a Team Manager Level Two qualification or undertake successful training to TM2 within six months.

The successful candidate would be expected to:

  1. Promote Scottish Swimming at all times.
  2. Deliver Scottish Swimming customer care standards.
  3. Attend, draft reports and contribute to Open Water Committee Meetings as appropriate.
  4. Maintain knowledge of, and adhere to the published Scottish Swimming policies applicable to all volunteers.

This position will be subject to a satisfactory PVG check on appointment.

The OW Committee Chair will appoint the post initially for a period of 1 year.
