Tranent Amateur Swimming Club (TASC) had it’s inception in 1973 and is one of the longest established swimming clubs in East Lothian. We are a friendly club where swimmers can improve on basic swimming skills, become safe around water and enjoy a fun club environment from early swimming development through to advanced competition level. We encourage the children to enjoy swimming at whatever level they feel comfortable, whether they swim for recreation and general fitness or to compete. Tranent swimmers range from club entry level at around 7 years old to those competing at Scottish National level. TASC achieved 4th place in the East District last year cementing our place as a highly competitive club. Our elite swimmers feed into the East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) and through this system TASC swimmers have gone on to be medallists at district, national age group, national open championships as well as the Paralympics and also had a competitor at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The club trains at Tranent's excellent local sports centre and attracts swimmers from the surrounding area. In the past two years the club has grown in numbers from 45 to 88 swimmers. We are swiMark accredited and working towards swiMark Plus. The club has clear aspirations to grow over the next few years and to that end has secured a 4 year development investment enabling us to put in place a plan for membership growth which includes a club development officer to assist the Head Coach in boosting swimmer numbers and strengthening the club’s infrastructure. The Head Coach will be supported by 2 assistant coaches. The Strategic Aims of TASC are: To provide an accessible environment that encourages a love for swimming. Provide the opportunity for swimmers to develop as athletes to national level. Encourage participation in swimming via steady membership growth. Develop into one of the East District’s leading clubs. TASC has a well established coaching structure supported by a dedicated committee. The key attributes required for the TASC head coach role are: UKCC Level 2 or equivalent professional experience – with the ambition to achieve Level 3 if not already done so Ability to motivate and encourage swimmers in all squads, as well as deliver a high quality program to those aspiring to districts and nationals. Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with swimmers, assistant coaches, committee, parents, learn to swim programmes and other key stakeholders. Ability to formulate training and competition programs Commitment to attend appropriate meets throughout the season Good administration skills A proactive approach, along with the club development officer, in promoting swimming in the surrounding area with regular visits to schools and learn to swim programmes. Sound leadership abilities in supporting and developing the assistant coaches in delivering a quality programme across all squads Enhanced PVG will be carried out on preferred candidates The Head Coach position is a part time role (5 pool sessions and 1 land session per week) and will be offered initially on a two year fixed term contract.
