Club of the Year 2021

You can be the new club of the year!

This year’s award aims not only to identify a club a year but to be a celebration of the terrific work clubs have undertaken throughout the past year to engage athletes and volunteers in the sport. The award is open to ALL Scottish Swimming affiliated clubs to enter, and we are looking for as many clubs as possible to get involved.

Entry Process

We are looking for each club to submit a 2min video outlining their club’s success in achieving the following over the past 12 months:

· How the club has retained, engaged, and supported members

· The culture and atmosphere the club has managed to create and sustain

· Top highlights

ALL entries that meet the requirements of the entry process will be submitted into a draw from which one club will be selected at random to receive a club visit from one of Scottish Swimming’s outstanding Olympic or Paralympic athletes. The draw will be completed after the announcement of the club of the year.


Awards will be decided upon by a “selection panel” (outlined below) with the following being awarded:

· The winning club will be presented with an Award Certificate, £500 and a club visit from an Olympic or Paralympic athlete.

· The 2nd place club will be presented with an Award Certificate and £300

· The 3rd place club will be presented with an Award Certificate and £200

· The 4th to 10th placed clubs will be emailed an Award Certificate.

Please note; Nominated clubs will only be passed on to the selection panel if the club has adhered to all Scottish Swimming club governance and best practice guidelines over the past year.


· Nomination videos for Club of the Year are welcomed from any current Scottish Swimming affiliated club

· There should only be 1 video submitted per club

· The video should represent the club between August 2020 until the closing date of 23rd September 2021 at midday.

· Nominations can be made by any member of a qualifying club

· Nomination videos should be approved and agreed by the executive committee to ensure it is a true reflection of the club.

· To enter, clubs should complete this form and then send their video to using We Transfer. Both of these steps must be completed. (Details on how to use We Transfer are on the google form.)

· Nominated clubs will only be passed on to the selection panel if the club has followed all Wellbeing and protection rules over the past year.

· The selection panel will include four judges from the following list:

o Scottish Swimming representative

o SASA President

o SASA Vice President

o SASA Past President

o sportscotland representative

o Previous Club of the Year winner

· The top 3 clubs will be shortlisted and will be notified on Tuesday 28th September 2021

· The three shortlisted clubs will be invited to a virtual club meeting to discuss their success over the year.

· Shortlisted club virtual meetings will take place on Wednesday 29th or Thursday 30th September 2021

· Virtual club meetings will comprise of the selection panel members and representatives from the club. Ideally including, but not exclusive to, members of the coaching staff, committee members, athletes (various levels), parents (non-committee members) and anyone else the club would like to bring up to a maximum of 10.

· All nominated clubs will be informed of the outcome of the selection process.

· The selection panel’s decision is final.

· Completed applications should be received by Scottish Swimming no later than midday on the submission date. The online form will not be accessed beyond this point and no more videos can be accepted via email.

Your video entry must be submitted by midday on the 23rd of September 2021

Video top tips

· All videos must be no more than 2min long or they will not be accepted

· All videos must be shot in landscape not portrait

· Each video should open and close with the name of the club

· Videos could include some interviews

· The video should be filmed on a camera or high-quality camera phone (e.g., iPhone)

· All entries must strictly adhere to all Wellbeing and Protection policies (/clubs/wellbeing-protection/wellbeing-protection-policy-children-young-people.aspx)

· All appropriate consents must be ascertained to allow the videos to be shown on all Scottish Swimming Social media platforms, events and press that results in the application.

· If clubs are using existing consent forms, please check that forms cover the content to be used for Scottish Swimming purposes as well as club use.

· All videos should be in MP4 format and compressed video to a maximum of 10MB.

· For the best chance at winning please consider volume and picture quality to best get your clubs nomination across.
