Real Time Information Guide

Most employers will now be required to report PAYE information to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in real time. This means that employers must:

  • send details to HMRC every time they pay an employee, at the time they pay them
  • use payroll software to send this information electronically as part of their routine payroll process

These new legislative requirements means that clubs will need to review their current practice to ensure that they are ready for Real Time Information (RTI).  We have attached some guidance notices and templates that we hope our clubs will find helpful.

  1. RTI Guide for Clubs
  2. A guide for clubs on “Engaging on Employment and Self Employment (May 2014)"
  3. An example letter to external contractors; and
  4. An example payment Form

Here are some various links provided by HMRC on SME Education Products which Clubs may find helpful.

  1. - This provides helpful tips on starting and running a business.  This link is aimed at clubs and / or self-employed individuals such as coaches etc.  It features a number of webinars, which include free online presentations (live and pre-recorded) on a number of subjects such as business expenses for the self-employed, operating PAYE in “real time”, Statutory Sick Pay, VAT awareness.
  1. E-learning - - The link is designed to provide useful tips and outlines the responsibilities for self-employed individuals starting their own business and includes case studies which are sport specific.  There is a section on employing people, a detailed explanation on establishing the employment status and how you use the ESI Tool to determine the employment status, i.e. whether an individual is employed or self-employed.  It also enables individuals to learn at their own pace and work their way through the various modules.  It may also be used as a referencing tool.
