OW Licence Applications and Renewals

Once you have completed each stage of your training as an Open Water Swimming Technical Official (OWSTO), Scottish Swimming members will be entitled to officiate at Open Water events in Scotland.

However, Scottish Swimming encourages all OWSTOs to License.  This demonstrates your competence as an official and helps us to ensure the highest possible standards. Licensing is by the same process, administered by the Institute of Swimming (IoS), as is the case for poolside STOs and has analogous requirements for continuous development, etc, to those in the pool.

Some restrictions operate on un-licensed qualified OWSTOs even within Scotland and if you wish to officiate in England or Wales, you will need to be licensed.  If you have the qualification, you deserve that it be fully recognised.

Information is available on license applications and renewals on the British Swimming website.
