Kirsty Kettles (nee Balfour) Date Of Birth: 21 February 1984 Place Of Birth: Edinburgh, Scotland Discipline: Swimming (breaststroke) Inducted to Hall of Fame: 2014 In 2002, KIRSTY KETTLES was selected for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester where she finished 7th in the 100m Breaststroke. Various GB representations followed but the real breakthrough was in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne when she pushed Leisel Jones in the 200m Breaststroke to take the Silver Medal and improved her PB by around 4 seconds. Kirsty’s time of 2.24.04 still stands on the British and Scottish Record Books. Later in 2006 Kirsty was crowned 200m Breaststroke European Champion in Budapest and took a further Gold medal as a member of the 4 x 100m Medley relay, adding a silver medal in the 100m Breaststroke. In 2007 at the World Championships Kirsty was again chasing Leisel Jones and had to settle for a tied Silver medal. Kirsty retired from the sport in 2008 after the Olympics.
