Margaret McEleny Discipline: Swimming Inducted Hall of Fame: 2018 MARGARET (MAGGIE) MCELENY competed at four Paralympic Games between Barcelona in 1992 and Athens 2004, winning 15 medals including 3 Gold. Between 1991 and 2001 Margaret McEleny competed at consecutive European Championships winning 15 medals including 5 golds. In 2000 McEleny was recognised by her fellow ParalympicsGB teammates and elected as flag bearer for the opening ceremony in Sydney, the same year she was recognised for her contribution to disability swimming and awarded an MBE. McEleny retired from competitive swimming prior to Beijing 2008 due to ill health. She continues to give back to the sport she loves and can at times be found on deck coaching at her local club, alongside her long-time coach, Eddie McLuskey.
