The District Regional Programme (DRP) is an initiative run by the SASA Districts and the Scottish Swimming Performance Team, under-pinning the National Programme of Senior, Youth and Youth Development squads. It also provides an opportunity for coaches and swimmers alike to develop a greater understanding of many key areas of competitive swimming.

The programme is designed to work along two strands;

The first is to aid the development and education of swimmers aged between 11 and 14 (achieving criteria laid down in the National Selection Policy) along with coaches working within their clubs.

The second strand is to ensure a positive learning experience for coaches with all levels of experience, enabling them to progress their knowledge and practice by working with and learning from each other.

In 2018 the DRP will be delivered locally in each District to circa 250 swimmers over three days 23rd September28th October (North District)/11th November (East & West Districts) and 3rd December, and aims to be progressive, motivating, challenging and enjoyable. The focus, as always, will be on skill development and learning how to become a better swimmer. Using the principles of Mindset, lead coaches will select swimmers for the National Stroke Camps in May 2019.

Coaches and Team Managers will also attend an Orientation Day on Saturday 1st September.

How to get involved

If you are a coach of a swimmer on DRP, you should attend all 3 days and reflect on your learning when the programme is over. If you want to get more involved next year, look out for the applications process to become a lead or assistant coach.
