Scott McLay Current Club: University of Stirling Current Coach: Steven Tigg @MclayScott SCOTT MCLAY is a burgeoning talent on the Scottish swimming scene. He's already made history by becoming the most successful Scottish Commonwealth Youth Games athlete of all time, returning home from the competition in the Bahamas in the summer of 2017 with five medals. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast he took part in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle. Scott attended the 2014 Comonwealth Games in Glasgow and said atmosphere at the Glasgow games proved pivotal to him dedicating himself to becoming a better swimmer. Scott said: "That’s something that will stick with me for the rest of my life, that atmosphere, the home games of Team Scotland and everyone all shouting for Ross and Michael to do the best that they could. I’m so excited to go to Gold Coast and get that same experience." Not content just with a high flying swimming career, Scott wants to literally take to the skies and one day become a pilot. He visits his dad, who lives and works in California, and together they fly over and around the Orange County area, taking in the sights of LA and San Diego on their travels. #ILearnedtoSwim with Scott McLay "I learned to swim at Perth Leisure Pool and my first club was Perth City Swim Club. I joined because I had completed swimming lessons and wanted to keep swimming. "My earliest memory is of winning a medal at my first club meet at the age of 7!"
