Outline: This course provides coaches with a final opportunity to attend the Level 3 qualification in its current format. As part of ongoing work to create a new, fit-for-purpose coach education system, Scottish Swimming will be launching a new suite of qualifications from late 2021. Included in this structure will be two new ‘Senior Coach’ qualifications that will replace the current Level 3; one specific to coaches operating within the Children’s Development and Age Group domains and one specific to coaches operating within the Performance Development domain. These qualifications will be available from 2022 therefore coaches should consider if the current Level 3 opportunity is most applicable to them, or if it would be more beneficial to apply for a new 2022 course. The Scottish Swimming Level 3 Certificate for Coaching Swimming is the 3rd level in the coaching education pathway. The Level 3 Certificate focuses coaches on developing performance along the continuum from age group through youth to senior levels. Coaches will complete the learning units; but will apply them and will be assessed in the coaches’ home programme. We recognise that swimmers develop and coaching positions and environments change so the focus is very much on being able to develop and fulfil the potential of the swimmers. This is a candidate led course which involves practical coaching, delivery and group work for individuals aspiring to produce high level performances at youth and senior level.
