Scottish National Championships at Great Scottish Swim

The race will be part of the elite competition which will see some of the world's best open water swimmers, compete against Scotland's top home grown talent.

Scottish Swimming is proud to announce that this year, the Scottish National One Mile Open Water Championship race will take place at the Great Scottish Swim, Loch Lomond on 27 August.

The race will be part of the elite competition which will see some of the world's best open water swimmers, compete against Scotland's top home grown talent, in one of the country's most iconic settings.

The race is open to both senior and junior athletes who meet the entry conditions below:

  1. Swimmer must be a registered Scottish swimmer or a member of a Scottish Swimming affiliated club. Junior category is 13 years to 16 years. Senior category is age 17 or over. Age as at 31st December 2016.
     
  2. Swimmer must meet one of the following entry standards.
    1. Is a member of the Scottish open water development squad, or:
       

Women

Pool qualifying times (faster than):

  • 800m 09:20:00
  • 1500m 18:40:00

or Open Water times (faster than):

  • 1500m 21:00:00
  • 2000m 31:00:00

Men

Pool qualifying times (faster than):

  • 800m 09:10:00
  • 1500m 17:10:00

or Open Water times (faster than):

  • 1500m 20:00:00
  • 2000m 30:00:00

Pool times in long course pools

Open Water times in Level One Scottish Swimming licensed events.
Times should have been swum between 14th August 2015 and 14th August 2016.
Entry is free of charge.

Overall race prize money will be as follows: 

1st) £1000

2nd) £750

3rd) £500

4th) £250

5th) £100

Prizes are available to all competitors in elite race; medal ceremonies will take place for the top 3 overall athletes as well as the top 3 Scottish senior and junior athletes (both male and female).

The race will be wetsuit compulsory; those athletes who do not have their own wetsuit will be provided with one by our event sponsors, Aquasphere. Height/weight measurements will be required in advance of the event.
