Another Breaststroke Showdown on the Cards

Michael Jamieson (Edinburgh University) and Ross Murdoch (University of Stirling) are on course for another showdown, this time in the 100m breaststroke final.  Both athletes posted times underneath that required for Team Scotland consideration and both are looking for their second title of the meet. The final will highlight the strength of breast-stroking in Scotland and any one of the finalists has a chance to make a qualifying time.

Hannah Miley (Garioch) and Kathryn Johnstone (Edinburgh University) recorded similar heat times and will go into the 200m breaststroke final as favourites, while the men’s 200m backstroke should produce an exciting battle between Ryan Bennett (University of Stirling) and Craig McNally (Warrender).

Dan Wallace secured the qualification standard in last night’s 400m freestyle final and will be looking to add to that by posting a fast time in tonight’s 200m IM final. He’ll need to improve on his time by a little over a second tonight to be considered but will be pushed hard by Carnegie’s Mark Szaranek.

Sian Harkin (University of Stirling) will also be eager to secure a 2nd nomination following last night’s success in the 50m freestyle. Her 50m butterfly heat time of 27.20 was agonisingly close to the consideration time for Team Scotland (27.19) and she’ll be keen to hit her target tonight.
