Five Golden goals for Christmas as Canada beat Scotland

On the back of a fantastic last minute win against Wales last night, The hosts were hoping for another good performance when they faced Canada.

The Canadians missed the Opening Ceremony having only flown in to Aberdeen yesterday so the Scots were hoping they would be still slightly jet lagged.

Unfortunately any tiredness the Canadian team had didn’t show as they raced to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter.

The festive pair of Kyra Christmas and Amy Yule and Emma Wright by far the best three players in the pool with Christmas and Wright scoring five each.

The Scots finally got into the match through captain Gael Logan and Nicola Tate early in the second quarter but the momentum was with Canada who took a 15-3 lead into the break.

Yet again in front of a capacity crowd, the Scottish started to work more as a team defensively and the third quarter they reduced their opponents to just four goals but failed to score themselves. 19-3 with just eight minutes to go.

In the fourth quarter, both teams were just going through the motions, Canada were sloppy going forward but Scotland showed no promise either.

There was just enough time for Canada to extend their lead to 20 and after England’s 35-1 earlier it looks like goal difference could be crucial at the top.

Final Score Canada 23  v  Scotland 3 (9-0, 6-3, 4-0, 4-0)

Canada will play Wales in their next game whereas the Scots will look for a better performance against another strong team, South Africa.
