Scotland book place in Bronze medal match with win over Singapore

Scotland 12 v  Singapore 6 (4-1, 3-1, 3-2, 2-2)

After seeing New Zealand beat Wales 9-1 earlier, the Scots knew that a draw would be enough for them to join South Africa in the bronze medal match tomorrow.

They did more than that as they put in a convincing performance to secure their third win of the week beating their opponents 12-6.

Scotland got off to a great start, taking the lead through Ali Campbell in the opening stages, but a fantastic reply from Jian Ying drew the sides level.

You could sense the nervousness in the crowd but it didn’t show in the pool as Scotland regained the lead through Keith Anderson before James Scobie found space at the back post to increase the lead to two.

Chris Campbell scored just before the end of the first quarter to give Scotland a 4-1 lead.

Scotland were well on their way to securing their place in the Bronze medal match thanks to goals from Ed Grundy, Ali Campbell and Fraser Rutherford in the second quarter giving them a 7-2 lead at half time.

Singapore alongside Wales are the only teams without wins in the tournament this week and it looked as though their wait for win would continue as Scotland extended their lead in the third.

Ali Campbell completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot and then adding another as Scotland strengthened their led at the end of the third quarter. Rutherford scored his second as well as Scotland finished the quarter leading 10-4.

Despite knowing they were going out of the competition, Singapore rallied in the last quarter but goals from Mark Speed and James Scobie meant Scotland won it 12-6

Final Score Scotland 12 -  Singapore  6.
