Finishing in 2:09.67, his time is well inside the qualification standard for Team Scotland. The 25-year old looked strong over the four lengths of the pool and will be favourite for the title in tonight’s final, which is due to start around 6.55pm. His nearest rivals will be Ross Murdoch (University of Stirling) and Calum Tait (Edinburgh University). In the women’s 100m breaststroke heats Edinburgh University team-mates Kathryn Johnstone and Corrie Scott look to be the ones to beat in tonight’s final, both posting times beneath that needed for Team Scotland consideration. Robbie Renwick (City of Glasgow) will be looking to bounce back from his disappointment of last night in the final of the 400m freestyle, while Hannah Miley (Garioch) will look to continue her domination of IM events in the 200m final. Sian Harkin will go into tonight’s 50m free final knowing that her heat time is within the qualifying standard for Team Scotland. Her University of Stirling team-mate, Eloise Barber, will be hot on her heels and this is likely to produce a very close finish. The men’s 100m backstroke final will see another University of Stirling swimmer, Ryan Bennett, going head to head with Warrender’s Craig McNally. Both athletes looked comfortable in their heats with the promise of much more to come in the finals.
