McGovern, Lamont Post Team Scotland Times

For the third time in 2 days, City of Aberdeen’s Andrew McGovern posted a Team Scotland consideration time for the 50m backstroke. His decisive time of 25.91 came in tonight’s final where he was placed 5th, with West Dunbartonshire’s Rory Lamont finishing 6th in 25.94 a time also within the nomination criteria. Jack Ness (COAST) finished 8th in 26.05.

There were seven Scottish swimmers in the 50m breaststroke semi-finals, with five of them finishing within the 28.50 Team Scotland consideration time. Ross Murdoch (University of Stirling) leads the pack with a time of 27.57, and also making it through to tomorrow’s final are, Mark Tully (East Lothian), Euan Inglis (Edinburgh University), Mark Campbell (COAST) and Joe Welstead (Stirling Swimming). Jamie Graham and Dan Scott (City of Glasgow) finished 14th and 16th respectively.

It was another busy evening for Sian Harkin (University of Stirling). The 19-year old was placed 9th overall after the semi-finals of the 100m freestyle and then went onto 7th in the final of the 50m butterfly, finishing in 27.39. East Lothian’s Raquel Matos was 8th in the same final touching home in 27.67.

Both Corrie Scott (Edinburgh University) and Katie Armitage (Hatfield) will feature in tomorrow’s 100m breaststroke final. Scott finished 2nd fastest in 1:08.89, while Armitage will have an outside lane finishing 7th overall in 1:10.71.

Craig Bowman (Carnegie) will also feature in tomorrow’s 100m butterfly senior final, with an 8th place finish after the semi-finals with a time of 53.98. Cameron Brodie (University of Stirling) was 11th overall.

In other events Brodie’s team-mate, Jak Scott, was 8th in 100m freestyle final, Megan Briggs (Warrender) 4th in 200m backstroke, while Hannah Miley (Garioch) was 4th in the 200m IM final, with a time of 2:11.99, cementing her Team Scotland nomination for the event.

In Junior finals, Duncan Scott continued his great form with Gold in the 100m freestyle in 50.67, while Jordan Hughes (North Ayrshire) was 7th in 51.73.

Carnegie’s Tain Bruce was 4th in the 200m IM, while Katie Stark (Warrender) finished 7th in the 50m butterfly final.

The British Gas Swimming Championships are taking place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre from 10th – 15th April 2014.
