'A big thank you to all the partners and staff involved in the event as it really was a team effort' - Jayne Smith, Participation Development Officer
The first Come and Try Open Water swimming event was held at the Helix Lagoon on Sunday 8th  June.  The event was a great success with 160 participants trying open water for the first time in a safe and friendly environment.
The event was run in partnership with Falkirk Community Trust, the Great Swim and Triathlon Scotland and the sessions were led by a team of coaches who ran four sessions for beginners and intermediates throughout the day.
Jayne Smith, Participation Development Officer, expressed her delight with how the event went on the day. She said. 'the coaches and participants were fantastic and it was great to see so many people enjoying the new facility at the Helix'.
Participants noted the great atmosphere of the event. Kate, who lives locally to the Kelpies, said 'everybody is really friendly and everyone seemed to have a great time'.
Chris, one of the coaches for the training sessions, said 'with the Olympics in 2012, everyone's really wanting to get involved in open water and triathlon as well so this is a great environment to do it in'.
