Reid and Heatly Amongst Divers Selected for the London World Series

The British Diving Team will be ready to take on the world’s best in London for the FINA/NVC Diving World Series from 1 – 3 May.

The team sees new members added as the Brits take part in the mixed 10m and 3m Synchro events for the first time at a World Series event. Amongst the new members are Grace Reid and James Heatly from City of Edinburgh Diving Club who won the 3m synchro event at the British Diving Championships, which took place in Plymouth in February.

World Cup bronze medallist Jack Laugher has seen his confidence raised by winning gold in the Dubai leg of the series and will hope the home crowd can push him on to success in the 3m Springboard. He will also compete with Chris Mears in the Synchro event.

““I’m really excited to get to London,” Laugher said. “It was the first competition me and Chris did synchro together at that level so it will be great to go back and see how we can do.

“The venue is very special and I’ll have my family and friends in the crowd. I love the pool and it’ll be great to come there straight after Russia.

“In terms of the synchro, it’s a bit annoying to have missed out on the medals in the first two World Series events, finishing fourth each time.

“But we are trying out a new strategy slightly. We are both diving really well individually so those performances give us confidence going into the rest of the season.”

Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley will be in action on Sunday 3 May when he will take on some of the best Platform divers in his home pool.

Tonia Couch will showcase her skill in both the individual and the synchro Platform events as she aims to continue her form in London. She will team up with European Champion Sarah Barrow in the synchro.

“I can take that forward to London and the home crowd can spur me on a bit,” Couch said. “I’m sure it will be a great atmosphere and it’s a great pool so it’ll be nice to compete there.

“I think a lot of people are talking about British diving at the moment and you can see why when you see the kind of performances we’ve had at the other legs. It lifts the team as well and hopefully we can all help each other and push each other on.”

The new synchro teams consist of Matty Lee and Georgia Ward on the 10m and Grace Reid and James Heatly on the Springboard. Lee was a medallist in the 2014 World Series and has just teamed up with Ward in the Canada Grand Prix and took the silver medal.

Springboard specialists Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree will be back in action on the 3m board after winning bronze in the first leg of the Series.
