Harper Macleod appointed as official legal adviser to Scottish Swimming

“We are delighted to have been appointed to this role, which will give us the opportunity to support Scottish Swimming as it builds on it’s successes in recent years and the legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games." Martin Darroch, Chief Executive Harper Macleod

Harper Macleod, one of Scotland’s leading law firms, has been appointed as the Official Legal Adviser to Scottish Swimming.

Scottish Swimming is the governing body responsible for swimming, diving, open water swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo in Scotland, representing more than 21,000 members and 160 clubs.

Recognised as Scotland’s leading sports law practice, Harper Macleod will support Scottish Swimming in its mission to develop and grow the sport across the country.

Last year, Harper Macleod was the Legal Adviser to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, where Scotland’s achievements in the pool were among the highlights of the event – the team winning 10 medals including gold for Hannah Miley, Ross Murdoch and Dan Wallace.

The firm, whose existing sports clients include the SPFL, Scottish Rugby, Glasgow 2014 and a wide range of Scottish sports governing bodies, will provide a wide range of legal services, including in key areas such as governance, child protection and contracts.

Martin Darroch, Chief Executive of Harper Macleod, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to this role, which will give us the opportunity to support Scottish Swimming as it builds on it’s successes in recent years and the legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. As Scotland’s recognised leading sports law firm, we are uniquely placed to partner with Scottish Swimming.  We look forward to supporting them and making a significant contribution to the sport’s future development and success.”

Forbes Dunlop, Chief Executive of Scottish Swimming, said: “Harper Macleod’s expertise in the sporting arena made them an obvious choice for us to work with. We’ve just released our new corporate plan highlighting our ambitions for the next six years so to have them on board from the outset provides a firm foundation on which we can deliver against our objectives."
