Scottish Swimmers Dominate World University Games Team Selection

Nine swimmers, five of whom are based in Scotland, have been selected to compete at the forthcoming World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, from 3-14 July 2015. 

Cameron Brodie who has recently returned from competing at the Japan Open in Tokyo will be joined by University of Stirling team-mate, Craig Benson, Kathryn Johnstone (Heriot Watt University), Calum Tait and Olivia White (University of Edinburgh). 

The squad will be led by Chris Jones (Head Coach of University of Edinburgh) who said, 

“The World University Games is a great opportunity to get experience at a multi-sport games. Dealing with a village environment and everything that comes with that is invaluable especially with the Olympics next year.

“The team selected will all be looking to make that step next year and this will be an excellent opportunity to race in a world class field. Now it’s time to train and prepare and we will be looking forward to bringing home some medals back this July”

The international University Sports Federation (FISU) organise the World University Games (the Universiade) every two years.

The Summer Universiade consists of 10 compulsory sports with 13 compulsory disciplines and up to three optional sports chosen by the host country. The Universiade is widely recognised as the second largest multisport Games in the world after the Olympics and progressively has risen to World Class in scale and standard, with over 10,000 participants from 150+ countries.
