Medals for Milne and Murdoch at FINA/airweave World Cup in Doha

The FINA/airweave World Cup in Qatar saw Stephen Milne win Bronze in the 400m and 1500m Freestyle, Ross Murdoch win Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke as the British squad totalled nine medals from the FINA/airweave World Cup in Doha, Qatar.

Guy (Millfield) delivered another world class performance to add the 200m Freestyle title to yesterday’s 400m gold. World Champion James Guy delivered Britain’s first medal of the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup 2015 in Qatar with a comfortable victory in the 400m Freestyle. The Millfield swimmer, who won gold at this year’s World Championships in the 200m Freestyle and silver in the 400m Freestyle, was a full two seconds ahead of the rest of the field and Stephen Milne (Perth City) joined him on the podium with a hard-fought bronze.

And World Championship medallist Jazz Carlin (National Performance Centre, Bath) was also back on the podium at the Hamad Aquatic Centre, Doha adding 400m Freestyle silver to her 800m second place.

World Champion Ross Murdoch (University of Stirling) showed his versatility across the breaststroke events to take bronze over the 100m distance while youngster Luke Greenbank (Cockermouth), who won two individual golds and two relay silvers at this year’s European Games in Baku, delivered another promising international performance with bronze in the 200m Backstroke.

Stephen Milne (Perth City) and Liam Tancock (National Performance Centre, Loughborough) rounded off the action with bronze medals in the 1500 Freestyle and 50m Backstroke respectively.

Britain’s swimmers are currently undergoing a hard block of work to lay the foundations on which they can build their performances for 2016 and, over the next two months, they will combine this with race preparation and process practice across a number of events.

THe athletes (including Scottish swimmers: Craig Benson, Stephen Milne, Ross Murdoch, Robbie Renwick and Duncan Scott) will now move to the FINA World Cup in Dubai (6-7 November).
