Scottish Swimming to roll out Swim Social Programme with Scottish Water in Inverness

The sessions are ideal for those who would perhaps like to improve their front crawl breathing or learn how to get more out of their swimming sessions.

Inverness is the latest setting for Scottish Swimming’s Swim Social programme thanks to the on-going partnership with Scottish Water.

Scottish Swimming and Scottish Water are working together to offer Swim Social, a coach-led adult swimming programme which is centred around having fun, getting fit and making new friends while improving stroke technique.

The Inverness launch will see former Commonwealth Champion and Swim Social ambassador, David Carry, provide tips and encouragement to all those taking part, which include a number of employees from the local Scottish Water office. This will be followed up with sessions on a Monday night and Tuesday lunchtime incorporating Skills and Drills and Powerswim.

Skills and Drills is a coached session for adult swimmers and this event is in the 25-metre pool. To participate you must be 16 years or older and able to swim at least 200 metres. The 1 hour session will focus on technique and will give you the opportunity to work on one of your weaker strokes. The sessions are ideal for those who would perhaps like to improve their front crawl breathing or learn how to get more out of their swimming sessions.

Powerswim is also a coached session and is a more advanced workout for those wishing to improve their fitness, stamina and swimming technique.  This session is for 1 hour and swimmers must be aged 16 years and over and be capable of swimming 400 metres.

Swim Social is aimed at a wide range of people who have different reason for attending, from improving swimming ability and/or providing an alternative or complementary activity to running. It can also aid recovery following injury or illness, whilst, meeting likeminded people who enjoy fun fitness and friendship in a social environment.

The Scottish Swimming and Scottish Water partnership was launched at Tollcross where the Swim Social sessions are now fully booked. The programme is now being rolled out with sessions available in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, West Lothian, Stirling, East Lothian Orkney as well as Inverness.
