Goodburn and Ross Continue Medal Winning Form on Day 2 of #SNAGS2016

The Scottish National Age Group Championships continued today at Tollcross International Swimming Centre with Archie Goodburn and Lucy Ross amongst several athletes adding to their medal haul.

Goodburn (Warrender Baths Club) lead from the off in the Boys 15 years 200m butterfly. Extending his lead with every turn he touched home in 2:10.50, an impressive five seconds clear of nearest rival, Finlay Hart (East Lothian Swim Team) who won silver in 2:15.70. Craig Greenock of North Lanarkshire was third in 2:15.84.

Goodburn went onto win silver medals in the 50m breaststroke and 400m freestyle.

Lucy Ross of South Lanarkshire Swimming also stormed to victory in the Girls 14 years 200m IM, touching home in a time of 2:27.13. Ross made her charge at the 100m mark pushing Eilidh Redpath of Midlothian into silver and Beth Gheel of Hearts into bronze with times of 2:29.24 and 2:30.31 respectively.

Ross also took gold in the 50m freestyle in 28.01.

Other performances of note were Ryan Brown of City of Glasgow Swim Team who won silver in the 200m fly (2:02.06) and Katy Smith of Warrender Baths Club who had to race hard to win gold in the 200m IM.

Earlier in the day Stephen Clegg of East Lothian Swim Team broke the world record for 200m backstroke (S12) posting a time of 2:18.08 while Douglas Kelly and Katie Shanahan were again on record breaking form, Katie (City of Glasgow Swim Team) breaking the Scottish Age Group Record (11 years) in the 200m IM – 2:30.11 and Douglas (Milngavie & Bearsden) the Scottish Age Group Record (12 years) in the 50m breaststroke – 33.48.
