Record Entries as Glasgow Plays Host to Countries Top Age Group Swimmers

" Looking at the record number of entries this meet is clearly seen to be the best age group competition in the UK and we must thank the volunteers and events team for creating this great reputation." Forbes Dunlop, CEO, Scottish Swimming

Over 1000 of the best age group swimmers representing over 90 clubs from across the UK arrive in Glasgow today ahead of the Scottish National Age Group Swimming Championships, which take place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre from 30 March to 3 April.

For many the event will provide an opportunity to win that first National Championships medal, make a final or score points for their Club in the Top Team competition. The meet also serves as a chance for athletes to gain ranking positions for the British Summer Nationals along with the Scottish Summer Meet held in July.

National Coach, Alan Lynn, is looking forward to the event. He said,

“SNAGS is not only a fantastic event in terms of racing and atmosphere, it will provide us with the opportunity to pilot a project called ‘Technique Matters’ where swimmers can view any of their races and discuss them with their coach under the guidance of a ‘technical expert.’ This will ultimately enhance the process of technical development at age group level.”

Scottish Swimming, in partnership with Glasgow-based QTV Sports, will once again be providing a free-to-air live stream from the Championships, broadcasting the evening sessions (finals) online from Wednesday 1st April. The stream can be found at www.scottishswimming.com/live.

Forbes Dunlop, Chief Executive Officer of Scottish Swimming said,

“We are delighted to return to Glasgow and to Tollcross International Swimming Centre.  Looking at the record number of entries this meet is clearly seen to be the best age group competition in the UK and we must thank the volunteers and events team for creating this great reputation.

“The atmosphere was electric at last year’s event with the gallery full to capacity and we hope families, friends and supporters will rally behind the swimmers and show them great support. On behalf of Scottish Swimming I wish all athletes competing the very best.”

The competition will run over five days from 30 March – 3 April 2016. Tickets for children can be bought for as little as £1 and for adults advance tickets start at £3 for heats and £4 for finals and will allow individuals to fast-track into the venue.
