Venues and Dates Confirmed for 2017 Scottish Swimming Championships

2017 is another important year for our athletes and coaches; not only will selection to World and Junior Championships be determined, but the qualifying window for the Gold Coast in 2018 opens and will see the swimming squad for Team Scotland selected.

Scottish Swimming is delighted to confirm the dates and the venues for the 2017 National Swimming Championships.

The Scottish National Age Group Championships will run between 29 March and 2 April and will be held at the Aquatics Centre at Aberdeen Sports Village. This event has enjoyed bumper entries over the last few years and will be the venue for the LEN European Junior Aquatics Championships in 2020.

The Scottish National Open Swimming Championships remain Scotland’s premier long course event and we will be returning to the Aquatics Centre at Aberdeen Sports Village from 29 June to 2 July. This event is often used as final preparation for a major international meet with many world class swimmers in attendance. Performances from this event in 2017 will also be used for Team Scotland selection for the Gold Coast in 2018.

The Scottish Summer Meet is an invitational event based on long course rankings within the designated ‘qualification window’ an opportunity for a broader range of athletes to compete through to the end of the swimming season. For 2017 the event is due to be held at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow from 14 – 16 July (pending confirmation from the venue).

The Scottish National Team Championships sees the top 10 Junior Teams from the 2017 National Age Group Championships competing for the title of Scottish National Junior Team Champions while the two Invitational ‘Open’ Teams will compete in head to head races for the title of Scottish National Team Champions. These teams comprise of Scottish athletes selected on the basis of their performances across the UK by Scottish Swimming’s Performance Director and National Coach. This event returns to Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow on 23 September 2017.

The 2017 Scottish National Short Course Championships will be held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh from 8-10 December 2017. This is widely recognised as the premier short course meet in the UK and attracts a wealth of talent from across Europe.
