Volunteer Week 2017 – Saying thank you to Les Rodger

The annual volunteer week recognises the incredible work of volunteers across our community. Over the week, we will be focusing on some of our invaluable volunteers and saying thank you for all of their hard work.

Today we shine a spotlight on Les Rodger of Aquanauts Livingston ASC.

How are you involved in swimming?

I'm a pool Referee, Open Water Judge OW2.  I'm on the Aquanauts Committee and I'm Chair of the Scottish Open Water Committee.

What do you get out of being a volunteer?

It’s great challenging myself but knowing that we're all working together, supporting one another to the same ends; for the benefit of the athletes.

What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering?

Go for it.  You'll be given all the training and support you need and you'll get a great sense of achievement.

What has been your volunteering highlight?

There's not a single standout highlight.  I get a buzz again and again every time, by being part of the team that delivers events for the athletes, whether in the pool or in open water.

Like so many of our volunteers, Les will be supporting events this weekend and on Sunday can be found at Lochore Meadows Country Park in Fife for the Lochore 1.5km Challenge. We can’t thank Les and all his fellow volunteers enough for all their help, it is them who help to drive the continued success of swimming in Scotland.
