Obituary Masters Swimmer Janet Stobie

We are sad to advise the death of Janet Stobie aged 88 from Dunoon who passed away peacefully on Sunday and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time. Janet was an inspirational Masters swimmer who swam for most of her life recently competing in the 85 to 89 age group. A strong all rounder, Janet swam Freestyle, Breast Stroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. She represented Motherwell Masters Club at the Scottish Masters Championship as far back as 1982 and remains the holder of 12 Scottish Masters records.

In a recent article in The Herald in 2016, Janet age 86 said “Never slow down – if we slow down we are giving up. Try to do as much as you can. I think if you feel young inside you are more inclined to keep doing things.”

Janet took up swimming at the age of 12 and competed as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US, Sweden and Denmark. Having had such a long and successful career in swimming she is an inspiration to us all.
