#SNAGS2018: Day 4 Report

Katie Robertson was back on the top step of the podium for Day 4 but young Jamie McGregor could well call himself the Dark Knight after powering to victory in the 14 Age Group 200m Freestyle Final...despite Tollcross suffering a blackout midway through the race!

The moment the lights went out McGregor was challenging for the lead but he wasn't phased by the darkness and by the time we had power again he was well ahead and the Perth City swimmer would touch home in 2:06.13. However, he had to endure the tension of a re-swim to earn his second gold of the day, adding to his 400m IM title from earlier.

The 14-year-old said after picking up his gold: "I was on the edge of my seat during the re-swim. It was so close.

"During the race itself I just kept on going, I felt it go black so I kind of looked around and everybody else was still going so I did the same." Huge credit must go to all swimmers as each of them continued to swim on in spite of the situation.

In the 17-18 Age Group 200m IM Final, Robertson swam a time of 2:18.85 to take the victory. The South Ayrshire swimmer has been selected to compete at the European Junior Championships in Helsinki this summer, and couldn't be happier with how #SNAGS has went so far.

She said: "This weekend wasn't so much about times for me it was more about process, trying to race fast in the heats and I've felt I've upped my game in the heats.

"I'm really happy and I didn't think I could go as fast as I did in the final."

Meanwhile, Robertson's South Ayrshire teammate Lucy Grieve turned in a PB (1:03.32) as she won gold in the 14 Age Group 100m Butterfly, pushed hard all the way by Anya Slessor of Aberdeen Performance.

12-year-old Stefan Krawiec (East Lothian), also had another impressive day in the pool with two brilliant gold medal swims. On this occasion he wasn't the youngest finalists however, as his teammate Calum Peebles made the 200m Freestyle Final despite his tender age of 11.

Elsewhere, North Ayrshire ASC's Rory Dickson and Angus Allison (Inverleith) picked up their sixth medals of the meet by winning the 15 and 16 Age Group 400m IM finals, and the Dumfries duo of Cameron Gordon and Ava Simpson won golds.

The finals started started with a fantastic race in the Girls 11-13 200m IM. Rachel Saunders and Saskia Wade were the two fastest qualifiers but Jess Prokas saved her best for the final. Barely a second separated the trio after the first 100m but Prokas began to pull away and by the time she was on the last 50m she was the sure-fire winner. The race for second however remained as tight as ever, with Wade only five-hundredths of a second quicker than Wade to the wall.

In the morning session, Dundee City Aquatics' 15-year-old Iona MacLeod's gold medal-winning 800m Freestyle time of 9:02.12 proved to be the fastest of all the female posted for that event.
