Monday, April 23, 2018 Fun, Fitness and Friendship on show as record numbers attend Scottish Masters Championships A record number of competitors representing approximately 30 clubs took to the pool at Tollcross International Swimming Centre for the Scottish National Masters Short Course Championships on this weekend. Swimmers came from all over the UK and even as far as Norway, and ranged from ages as young as 18 and our eldest being William Groves at 81, proving that swimming really is a sport for life. This annual fixture has a great atmosphere combining the competitive elements of a national swimming meet with the fun, fitness and friendship theme of Masters swimming. A selection of brilliant photos by Brian Battensby are available on our Facebook and Flickr pages. The quality of swimming at this event is best demonstrated by the number of records that were broken at the meet, with 11 British Records and no fewer than 37 Scottish Records set over the weekend, as well as a European Record from Nicola Latty in the Women's 400m IM. The full list of records can be found at the bottom of this article. Once the competitive swimming was over, participants enjoyed a buffet dinner, a ceilidh and awards night on Saturday at Glasgow University Union, with Silver City Blues retaining their title as the top club. Full results are available via SwimScotland, here.
