Wednesday, April 11, 2018 #GC2018 Day 7 - Diving Prelims The diving competition of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games finally got underway today Having been on poolside at the Optus Aquatics Centre cheering on the swimmers for the past six days, the Scottish divers finally got their competition underway with James Heatly and Lucas Thomson both in action in the 1m springboard prelims. Heatly started his programme well but dropped his third dive, the Back 2½ Somersaults, Tuck. He bounced back immediately in round four with his Forward 3½ Somersaults Pike, which scored his highest marks, 67.65. He finished with a total of 366.05 and was third overall. He said of his performance, “I’m really happy with that. For prelims you just want to get through safely. I dropped one of my dives, it wasn’t pretty, but I know I can improve in each of the dives and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do later.” Lucas Thomson uses the 1m springboard to blow away any cobwebs ahead of his main event, the 10m platform, and nobody was more surprised than himself at getting into the final. He said, “That was great. I just wanted to enjoy myself there as it’s not my main event. That’s a really nice surprise getting into the final and tonight I’m going to go out there and have fun, there is no pressure on me whatsoever.” Diving finals start at 19:01 local time (10:01 GMT).
