Commonwealth & European Medallists in action at Short Course Championships

Commonwealth and European medallists are among over 800 athletes from 93 Clubs due to arrive in Edinburgh for the start of the Scottish National Short Course Championships, which kick off on Friday December 7. The event, recognised as the premier Short Course event in the UK, will take place at the historic Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh over three days.

Duncan Scott will be looking to round off an outstanding year and is entered in six individual events over the weekend. Juggling a busy competition schedule with exam revision, Scott will be looking to add to the six medals won at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and four medals won at the Glasgow European Championships.

World Junior Champion, Freya Anderson, will also be in action. The 17-year old Ellesmere Titans athlete will look to dominate the freestyle events and add to her medal haul from both the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships.

Edinburgh University’s Jack Thorpe and Tain Bruce come into this meet on great form, having broken Scottish Records in 50m free and 100m fly respectively at last month’s BUCS Short Course Championships in Sheffield. Thorpe, Bruce along with their Edinburgh University team-mates will look to retain the top club award from the Championships that they won last year, beating off stiff competition from their University of Stirling rivals.

Scottish Swimming, in partnership with QTV Sports, will once again be providing a free-to-air live stream from the Championships, broadcasting the evening sessions (finals) online via www.scottishswimming.com/live and the Scottish Swimming YouTube channel.

Forbes Dunlop, Chief Executive Officer of Scottish Swimming said:
