Wednesday, June 19, 2019 GBR Open Water Selection for Iona MacLeod Iona MacLeod will swap the pool for Open Water when she competes for GBR at the LEN European Junior Open Water Championships n Czech Republic in August Dundee City Aquatics’ Iona MacLeod has been named in the 10-strong team selected to represent Great Britain at the LEN European Junior Open Water Championships in the Czech Republic. The Czech village of Racice, north of country’s capital Prague, will host the four day festival of swimming from 1-4 August, with Europe’s best junior athlete’s competing for continental open water honours. Iona MacLeod said of her selection: “Wow!! I am super proud to be selected to represent GB and travel to Czech Republic for Europeans this summer. European competition is always a challenge, but one that I enjoy and I’m sure that I will continue to learn from. Credit and thanks for the continued support from my head coach David Haig and Open Water coach Elise Methven and of course Scottish Swimming. I’m ready!” Of the team selected British Swimming Marathon Lead, Bernie Dietzig, said: “As well as the more experienced marathon swimmers highlighted, the team also includes some athletes that are new to this level of competition and it will be really beneficial to expose them to this type of environment early in their careers.
