Dawson leads Scottish 1-2-3 in backstroke final

Kathleen Dawson led the charge in a Scottish 1-2-3 in the 19rs/over 50m backstroke on the penultimate day of racing from the British Summer Championships, taking place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow.

The University of Stirling athlete took the touch in 28.15, again demonstrating her recovery from a knee injury in well on track. Lucy Hope (Edinburgh University) finished with silver in 28.79, a fingertip ahead of Cassie Wild (University of Stirling) who won bronze in 28.81.

All three have now finished their meet and head to the States in the morning to take part in the US Nationals.

Jack Thorpe (Edinburgh University) broke the Scottish Record to lead the rankings in the 50m freestyle after the heats (22.37). Thorpe will take that form to the US Nationals and opted not to swim the final, handing the baton to team-mate, David Cumberlidge, to take the gold in 22.14.

Myles Lapsley from City of Glasgow Swim Team added to the gold he won for 100m freestyle, by taking top honours in the 16yrs 50m freestyle final. He powered home in 24.17 to the delight of his team-mates.

Angus Allison (Warrender Baths Club) and Charlie Hutchison (Ellesmere College) both added to their already impressive medal haul, taking gold in their respective 200m IM finals; Allison dominated the 2nd part of his race, taking the 16yrs title in a time of 2:06.84, while Hutchison powered home in 2:02.56 in the 17/18yrs final.
