Lawlor in record breaking form on day 2 of British Summer Champs

The British Summer Championships continued today at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in front of a packed gallery, making for some thrilling finals and fast swimming.

Louis Lawlor from City of Glasgow Swim Team showed great form, despite being in heavy training for the World Para Swimming World Championships in London next month. He broke the Scottish Record for S14 in both the heat and the final, touching home to take the gold medal in the MC event in a time of 1:01.15.

University of Stirling’s Kathleen Dawson showed she’s well on the way to full recovery from her knee injury by winning gold in the girls 19yrs/over 100m backstroke final. She touched home in 59.99, only 0.3 off the Scottish Record she set at the European Championships in London back in 2016. Her Stirling team-mate, Cassie Wild, won silver in 1:01.07.

Archie Goodburn (Warrender Baths Club) added to his medal tally, taking his second gold of the meet in the 17/18yrs final for 50m breaststroke. He touched home in 28.36, while Max Hagan from City of Glasgow Swim Team took his second breaststroke bronze medal in the same event, with a time of 28.72.

Charlie Hutchison from Ellesmere College, fresh from his GBR duties at the LEN European Junior Championships in Kazan last month, won gold in the 17/18yrs 200m butterfly final. He touched home in 2:01.81, while in the 19yrs/over category, it was gold for Tom Beeley (Plymouth Leander); he posted 1:59.01 for the event.
