Thursday, July 25, 2019 Gold rush for Scots on Day 3 of British Summer Champs Angus Allison of Warrender Baths Club While it was sweltering hot outside athletes were setting the pool on fire at Tollcross on day 3 of the British Summer Championships with Scottish swimmers taking their share of the spoils, with a bit of a gold rush. Angus Allison of Warrender dominated his 16yrs 400m IM final and moved further away from the field with every turn. He touched home in 4:29.42, around 5½ seconds ahead of nearest rival Edward Hunt of Kingston Royals who took silver in 4:34.96. Bronze went to Luke Ibbeson of Wycombe District in 4:36.88. Ellesmere’s Charlie Hutchison added to the gold medal won last night in the 200m fly with gold in the 17/18yrs 400m IM. Hutchison showed his strength in the event and was the clear winner touching home in 4:22.78. William Bell from City of Leicester won silver in 4:28.30, while Robbie Jones of Mount Kelly won bronze in 4:28.51. Our para-swimmers were also on good form with Toni Shaw of Aberdeen Performance (s9) winning gold in the MC 100m freestyle final and Scott Quin of Warrender (SB14) taking gold in the 100m breaststroke. Quin is the current world record holder for the event. In the 100m freestyle event, there were wins for Stefan Krawiec from East Lothian Swim Team in the 13/14yrs final in a new personal best time of 54.63, while Myles Lapsley from City of Glasgow Swim Team won gold in his 16yrs race with a time of 52.17. In the 19yrs/over final Edinburgh University’s David Cumberlidge got the better of team-mate Jack Thorpe taking gold in 49.45, while Thorpe was joint second with Loughborough’s Alex Bowen in 49.88. In the girls 50m free, Emma Russell (Hearts) got the touch in the 16 years final in 26.42, while Sophie Smith (St. Thomas) won the 17/18yrs final with a time 25.80. Hannah Miley of Aberdeen Performance looked strong as she took gold in the girls 19yrs/over 200m butterfly in a time of 2:12.30.
