Medal success for Scots on Day 1 of British Summer Championships

It was a full and busy schedule for day one of the British Summer Championships, which are taking place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow. The invitation-only domestic season finale produced some thrilling racing with a large number of Scottish athletes contesting finals.

Archie Goodburn (Warrender Baths Club) has recently returned from GBR duty at the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Kazan and is using this meet to fine tune preparation ahead of the World Junior Championships in Budapest next month. He won gold in the 17/18 years 100m breaststroke final in a time of 1:02.84. Max Hagan from City of Glasgow Swim Team won bronze in the same final, touching home in 1:03.56.

University of Stirling’s Craig Benson also won gold in the event, in the 19yrs/over category with his second sub 60 time of the day, a 59.83.

Kat Greenslade and Edinburgh University team-mate Lucy Hope enjoyed a great battle in the 19yrs/over 200m freestyle final. Neck and neck throughout it came down to a sprint finish with Greenslade just taking the touch in 2:00.34 pushing Hope into silver with 2:00.46.

Hannah Miley (University of Aberdeen Performance Swim) won gold in her 19yrs/over 400m IM final (4:40.98), while Katie Robertson (South Ayrshire) won gold in the 17/18yrs 50m breaststroke final in a time of 31.92.

The British Summer Championships also features Multi Classification events, and University of Stirling’s Ollie Carter broke the S10 Scottish Record for 400m freestyle in both the heats and the final lowering the national standard to 4:19.63.

Kara Hanlon (Edinburgh University)BRONZE 50m breaststroke (19yrs/over)
