Scots dominate freestyle finals on Day 4 of British Summer Champs

Day 4 of the British Summer Championships saw a near clean sweep of gold medals for Scottish athletes in the girls 100m freestyle finals.

The girls from Edinburgh University dominated the 19yrs/over 100m freestyle, taking the top four places in the final. Lucy Hope won gold in 55.37 and was pushed all the way by team-mate Kat Greenslade, who finished with silver in 55.99. Rachel Masson won bronze in 56.09, while Tain Bruce was just edged out of the medals finishing fourth in 56.15.

In the 16yrs final, Emma Russell of Hearts won gold in a new Scottish 15yrs age group record of 56.62, adding to the gold she won last night in the 50m free. The same can be said for St. Thomas’s Sophie Smith, she secured her freestyle double with gold in the 17/18yrs 100m freestyle with a time of 56.52. And top honours for the event were also won by Lucy Grieve of South Ayrshire Swim team; she won gold in the 15yrs final in a time of 57.72.

And to round up the event across all age categories, youngster Drew Nelly McKenzie from City of Glasgow Swim Team won the bronze medal in the 13/14yrs final, with a time of 58.64.

East Lothian Swim Team’s Stefan Krawiec continued his medal run with another superb performance in the 100m butterfly final (13/14yrs). He dominated his race, powering home in another personal best time of 57.80, a new B13 years British Age Group Record.

In MC events, Ollie Carter from University of Stirling broke the S10 Scottish Record for 50m freestyle (26.76) and the SM10 Scottish Record for 200m IM (2:26.56). Toni Shaw (Aberdeen Performance) was also on form tonight, breaking the S9 Scottish Record for 50m freestyle (30.08).

Andrew Macintosh (Edinburgh University) BRONZE 200m breaststroke (17/18yrs)

Holly McGill (Hearts) SILVER 200m backstroke (13/14yrs)

Ellie Turner (Carnegie) SILVER 200m backstroke (16yrs)

Toni Shaw (Aberdeen Performance) BRONZE MC 50m freestyle
