Tuesday, March 17, 2020 In Response to Government statement – 16th March 2020 Following the statement from the Scottish Government earlier this evening Scottish Swimming continue to consider the best options for athletes, volunteers, clubs and the general public when making decisions around education courses, events/competitions and club training. With the latest advice citing the need to reduce social contact, Scottish Swimming recommends the following course of action: Education Courses All face-to-face education activities should stop immediately and we will review the situation again at the beginning of May, or when further clarity is provided by the Scottish Government. Where we can and where relevant, we will continue to use technology to deliver courses. However, we recognise that this is not practical for all education activities. Where not, the aim will be to re-schedule courses to a later date wherever feasible. Any enquiries should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org Events/competitions All Events/Competitions, scheduled to take place before the beginning of May should be postponed. We will review the situation then or when further clarity is provided by the Scottish Government. We will continue to work with clubs around events and support them in their discussions with pool providers to find suitable alternative dates within the competition calendar. Club Training Earlier today Scottish Swimming made contact with the majority of Local Authorities around training, however, recognising that further clarification is needed following the Scottish Government’s latest statement, we strongly suggest that Clubs consider the health and welfare of athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents attending the training sessions, as well as making contact with the pool provider to determine their advice and policies around social distancing. We are working to clarify what the government advice means for clubs and will update in due course.
